The new Castle Gate Lifestyle opened on 30 May 2024, offering shoppers access to flagship stores, including Kloppers, Mr Price Home, Foodlovers Market, and Weylandts.

Castle Gate Lifestyle is across the road from the popular Castle Gate shopping centre and offers an additional 24,000 square metres of retail space.

It forms part of the new multi-billion-rand Castle Gate mixed-use precinct in Pretoria, developed by Atterbury.

The first phase, the Castle Gate shopping centre, opened its doors to the public on 26 November 2020.

It was designed with a rustic, industrial farmhouse feeling inspired by openness, ease, and simplicity.

“The centre is performing beyond expectations with its appealing mix of convenient retail, restaurants, dining piazza, and kids play area,” Atterbury said.

The new Castle Gate Lifestyle shopping centre opened its doors three-and-a-half years after the Castle Gate development.

It extends the Castle Gate retail shopping centre and offers a unique lifestyle experience focusing on home, hobbies, gardening, and interiors.

Its shops include Kloppers’ first store in Gauteng, a state-of-the-art Food Lover’s Market, Market Liquors, Eskort Butchery, and Mr Price Group Home.

It also features the high-end furniture store Weylandts, the quality kitchen and homeware outlet Yuppiechef, West Pack Lifestyle, and PNA.

Kloppers is its anchor tenant, with 10,000 square meters of space, followed by Food Lover’s Market, with nearly 4,000 square meters.

Other big tenants include the Coricraft, Volpes, Dail-a-Bed partners with 2,000 square meters and Weylandts with 2,300 square meters.

Castle Gate Lifestyle boasts numerous eco-friendly features, including a solar farm, rainwater harvesting, and sustainability efforts featuring rustic industrial design and green spaces.

Castle Gate Precinct

The new Castle Gate Lifestyle shopping centre forms part of the modern mixed-use Castle Gate Precinct.

Castle Gate is a City of Tshwane strategic project in a key Pretoria-east in-fill development growth node.

Once completed, the precinct will feature 115,000 m² of office space, up to 90,000 m² of residential space, and 20,000 m² of medical facilities.

The large-scale mixed-use precinct development is expected to represent a total investment of R6 billion and create approximately 750 permanent jobs.

The Castle Gate Precinct will also feature a hotel, private school, events facility, and other business areas.

The development is being rolled out in response to market demand and will ultimately have:

  • 50,000 square meters of retail space.
  • 50,000 square meters of office space.
  • 18,000 square meters of mixed-use business park.
  • 1,300 residential units set in eight hectares of protected green areas with walking and running trails.

It is built in a prime location close to the N1 highway between Van Ryneveld Avenue and Solomon Mahlangu Drive.

Castle Gate’s central location features easy access and good visibility from all surrounding roads.

New road infrastructure upgrades will improve private and public transport in the area, benefiting all tenants in Castle Gate.

The new precinct has been designed for optimal use by commercial, retail, and residential tenants.

In March 2022, Atterbury completed its new fully let office development at the Castle Gate Precinct.

A 2,700sqm Planet Fitness gym, which opened in February 2022, occupies one of the building’s two wings.

The other wing comprises three office levels, fully let with a trio of top business names – VDT Attorneys, Mazars, and Central Developments.

The new gym and offices extend the existing Castle Gate retail centre, the first phase of the Castle Gate precinct development.

Its newest building adds to this vibrant energy, with more than 230 people working there and hundreds more visiting the gym daily.
